Culture

Goldeck

Culture

Austria as everybody knows is rich in culture . Our guests need look no further than the name of our hotel which bears the same name as the mountain - Goldeck. Loosely translated this means 'Gold Corner'. The name derives from the fact that gold was found in large quantities on the mountain, which incidentally, looks like a corner.
Try your luck on one of the many gold streams that run down the side of the mountain, near the Hotel, and who knows, your stay may well pay for itself!

Porcia

Culture in Spittal

The town of Spittal/Drau, which is located at the bottom of the North side of the Goldeck, is full of historic buildings. The most famous being Porcia castle. During the summer time, the castle is accustomed to hosting many cultural events ranging from concerts to play, as well as comedies and other performances.

Millstättersee

Sport, Health & Fitness

Residing at such an altitude is not only good for the body but can also be advantageous for maintaining, or increasing, fitness levels. All those guests who choose a more active holiday will feel spoiled for choice when faced with the wide range of options in front of them. Even a casual walk can pump fresh, clean air through the body. More challenging hikes and climbs will also ensure the lungs are filled to the brim. For those more adventurous, there is the added option of para-gliding or parasailing. The below list of activities is long, but in no way exhaustive. Many more activities are available in or around the area.

At the bottom of the cable car are 10 outdoor and 3 indoor clay tennis courts. A mere 10 minute walk will bring you to the Spittal Water World, offering indoor and outdoor swimming pools and water slides, plus saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis, massage, and, health and beauty facilities and much more.

Next to the cable car are two football grounds and an ice rink. Everything listed here is available all year round.

Guests can also be treated to the pleasure of being able to swim in the prestine lakes of the area. There are two lakes - Lake Millstatt which was much admired by the late Habsburg Monarch and his family; and Lake Weissensee named after the white colour of it's sandy beaches similar to those found on exotic islands.

Adrenalin junkies need look no further - white water rafting, canyoning or bungy jumping are all on offer within a 20 minute drive!

Porsche museam

Culture - Famous Sons

North of Spittal lies the village of Gmünd. This is the home to the famous Friedrich Porsche, inventor of the Otto Engine. The history of this incredible discovery can be observed in the local Porsche Mueseum.

Venice

Places of interest

A couple of kilometers outside Spittal can be found the 6,000 year old church Danielsberg.

Whoever thought the first 'drive through' church was to be found in America could not have been more wrong. For more than 2000 years a church like that can be found just outside of Gmund which was build to bless the coaches and its drivers who brought goods from Italy to Salzburg and vice versa to protect them from being robbed or even killed on their dangerous travel through and across the alps.

Many more culturally unique places can be found only short drives away from Spittal. Even such culturally famous places as Venice and Salzburg can be reached within 1 - 3 hours drive from the Hotel.
